White Sox Run Club Bio: Laura (@lakemiwsox)

Laura holds down the fort in the Detroit area for all of us White Sox fans, which could become more vital in the upcoming seasons if the Tigers decide to be relevant again.  Originally from the Chicago area, Laura regularly shares some awesome pics from her running routes and has been very active with the White Sox Run Club.  Give her a follow and read this awesome story!

How long have you been running for?

I’ve been running from my problems most of my life (lol), but I’ve been physically running since November 1, 2021.

How in the world did you get into running?

I moved to Michigan 2 years ago and told myself I’d join the gym that’s within walking distance from my house, but then COVID hit and everything closed.  So I became a hermit.  It took 2 years but I finally decided to do something about it, and I figured running was the easiest thing to get me active, so I bought a new pair of running shoes and used the C25K app to get my started.  This past weekend (2/26/2022), I ran my first in person 5K (The Paczki 5k) and PR’d my time!

Running Shoe:

New Balance shoes have always been the comfiest for my feet, and their sizing is consistent (v important for someone who prefers ordering things online)!  Currently I alternate between the DRFT and the Fresh Foam 680 V7.

Favorite Running Route:

Because I don’t want the interweb weirdos to stalk me, I’ll just say that I have a great “out the door” route I’ve found that’s flat and easy for me as a beginner.  I’ve also found a few great trails around here, like Carpenter Lake Nature Preserve, so when I want to push myself a little more I’ll venture out to those.

Do you have a favorite playlist or podcast you listen to during your runs?

The wireless Beats headphones I bought a few months ago gave me a free Apple Music trial, so I put on the Foo Fighters & Similar Artists station and run to that.  I’m also currently listening to Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins on Audiobook, which helps push me out of my comfort zone.

What advice do you have for other White Sox Run Club participants about running or staying active?

Always do something for yourself, not for others or because others want you to do it, and STAY CONSISTENT!  The hard work and subsequent rewards will come, but the mental health benefits are pretty immediate.  Also, embrace the “bad” days – be angry, let yourself FEEL!  But most importantly, stay encouraged and find a community to support you.  I’m very grateful to have found the WST community – I’ve “met” people I truly consider friends and I see so much support within this community.  It’s absolutely beautiful!

2022 White Sox Bold Prediction:

WHEN Opening Day happens, GUINNESS WORLD RECORD TAILGATE PARTY! And also, Dallas Keuchel gets his groove back and learns how to be a team player.
