Star Wars: Maul Shadow Lord – Episodes 7 & 8
We’re getting down to some of the final episodes of the season with the last 2 airing this coming Monday. These episodes did not disappoint. I had a few thoughts on these episodes…
Two Boots Redemption Arc
Look, it’s good that the droid finally figured out that the Empire sucks and saved Lawson’s kid. Strangely, he’s still hung up on his boots even after hearing the Empire murdered Chief Klyce. Also, he’s the one that brought in the Empire. Good on him for eventually doing something good, but he still sucks. He’s gonna have to sacrifice himself in the next 2 episodes to fully redeem himself.
Master Eeko-Dio Daki
I absolutely loved him tossing a speeder into that ship and killing everyone involved. That’s some great Jedi action, dispatch a bunch of faceless storm troopers in spectacular fashion.

But not so fast my friends! Dude was ready to bolt on Lawson. Saying the Empire might show them leniency if the Jedi are gone. Come on now! Ain’t no way that’s happening and he knows it. He just wanted to get the hell out of there. His willingness to run in this situation plus his willingness to kill all them troopers to survive is helping to send Devon down a dark path.
Devon
It’s kind of subtle, but you’re seeing Devon slowly turn to the dark side. I don’t know that she’ll get there, but there are some signs.
She opted to fight with Maul against the Empire rather than protect Rylee. She beat the shit out of a bunch of dudes and stole their car. Her actions are becoming more brazen and violent. In the chase scene her jump off one road down to another matches Maul’s jump in his fight with the Inquisitors.
These next two episodes should be interesting for her.
The Inquisitors

The choice of Inquisitors in the series is pretty interesting. We don’t know a lot about either of these Inquisitors, but we know Ahsoka kills them both. And we know both deaths were weird. Marrok with the green gas and the Eleventh Brother (The Crow) just kinda deflates.

So I’m not sure they haven’t died previously, perhaps at the hands of Devon or Maul, but that’s what we’ll find out. The more important thing here is that we’re seeing a much better version of the Inquisitors than we have in other shows. They work together, they’re powerful, and they almost kill Maul. But let’s be honest, Maul is out there like Willis Reed playing on one leg.
Maul
Maul is absolutely going through it in episode 8. I thought this was fantastic. This is how you turn a villain into the one you’re rooting for in a show. The flashbacks were great, especially for those not familiar with his history. The pain, the sorrow, the fear, all the things that are bringing him to a boiling point of anger. And that is when he’s most powerful. I think there is gonna be some tremendous ass kicking in these last episodes.
Oh and it sounds like we’re getting Dryden Vos
