College Football Week 1 Bets

Week zero has come and gone and was a nice warmup leading into the first full week of action this weekend.  With games Thursday night all the way until Monday night there is plenty of action on the board this weekend.  While I didn’t blog about my week zero bets, I started out the season 3-0-0.  Here’s what the 108 crew likes for the week one slate this weekend:

Brew Hand Bet One: Utah vs Florida (Utah -3)

As I mentioned last week in the blog about our favorite futures bets for the season, I really like Utah all season long. (Check it out here)  I expect Utah to come out firing and make a statement while traveling to The Swamp and silence the Gators.

Kyle Whittingham has had months to prepare for this matchup, something recent history shows is a strength for the Utes.   Meanwhile, Billy Napier is making his debut as head coach for Florida.  I’m anticipating some early struggles under the new regime at Florida as the Gators may need a few games before they perform up to expectations.  Utah heads to Gainesville with a week 1 statement win in SEC country to get more eyes on them for the playoff and the national championship.

Brew Hand Bet Two: Oregon vs Georgia (Under 53.5)

Sticking with the theme of a PAC 12 power going on the road to SEC Country, the Ducks take on the defending National Champions in Atlanta.  While I was very tempted to bet with my heart and take Oregon and the 17 points, it wasn’t the best bet on the board for this game.  Oregon +10 for the first half also had me intrigued, but ultimately I am rolling with the under for this matchup.  Oregon’s new head coach, Dan Lanning, was the architect of the defense for the Bulldogs last year that had one of the greatest defenses of all time.  While Georgia reloads on defense, they still have a plethora of talent on that side of the ball.  Additionally, Oregon returns a stout defense of their own for defensive guru Lanning with Noah Sewell and Justin Flowe leading the linebacking core.  I also expect both teams to have a run heavy tempo on offense to kill a lot of the clock.  Expect a defensive battle with Oregon keeping the game close.  (P.S. Scoducks)

King Nom’s #108ing Bet of the Week: Notre Dame at Ohio State (OSU -17.5)

New coach Marcus Freeman brings his Irish into a tough atmosphere against a Buckeye team in prime time Saturday night.  Both teams are sporting new defensive coordinators, but with Ohio State returning many key pieces of a dominant offense, look for them to score a ton of points and try and come out with a statement opening win en route to a possible playoff appearance.
