Dats right frents, I’m BACK!!! Betting EVERY SEASON WIN TOTAL at Pointsbet.com (PROMO CODE: 108ing) then go and check out the NL CENTRAL, AL WEST, NL WEST and AL EAST. Now let’s move on to today’s division, the NL East!!

NL EAST

Atlanta Braves OVER 91.5

The Braves didn’t do much to garner headlines in the off-season (Hahn SZN) but they really didn’t need to. They have an outstanding young core lead by Ronald Acuna Jr. They’ll add Cristian Pache to that group who isn’t known for his bat, but draws Andruw Jones comps in CF. If this team has an achilles heel (pun intended) it’s the health of their starting pitching, namely Mike Soroka (a BeefLoaf fave). I just think they’d need A LOT of bad luck to not be a low 90’s win team this year.

New York Mets UNDER 90.5

I absolutely LOVED the Mets aggression in the off-season!! The trade for Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco (“Cookie”) were exactly what you should do when a new owner takes the helm. Nothing made me happier than to see James McCann go to a contender and get hisself a starting job. However, given their helium due to the publicity of changing owners from the Wilpons (EVIL!!!) to Steve Cohen (HEDGE FUND OWNER!!!!) and the high profile acquisitions, I just think the price is too high. Their defense is outright bad, save for Lindor and McCann (although the late inning OF options in Pillar and Almora are good). And their starting pitching outside of Jacob DeGrom won’t miss enough bats to protect them. I expect the Mets to be in this race till the last week, but they don’t make 90 wins.

Washington Nationals UNDER 84.5

While I think Juan Soto ends up being the NL MVP this season, I’m not so sure about the rest of the Nationals roster. I think we’ve already seen the best seasons by Josh Bell and Kyle Schwarber, the two position player bounce-back candidates that the Nats acquired in free agency. Not sure why Jon Lester is here, he’s cooked. Maybe Victor Robles fulfills his potential and Steve Strasburg stays healthy, but I kinda doubt it. It would not surprise me at all if the Nats were trading Max Scherzer in July for a re-boot of this roster for 2022.

Philadelphia Phillies OVER 81.5

Scott Kingery, Vince Velasquez, JP Crawford and Nick Pivetta, do you know what those are the names of? They are the names of key parts of a rebuild that didn’t pan out. As a White Sox fan, seeing how well lots of our rebuild is panning out, I almost feel bad for Philly fans, ALMOST! That being said, the Phillies are better than an 81 win team. It’s a solid roster that over the last two years has had horrendous bullpens. Some combination skill, health and flat out bad luck has lead them there, but I expect monster positive regression on that front.
The Phils have a good lineup with plenty of thunder and on-base skills in Bryce Harper, JT Realmuto, Andrew McCutchen, Alec Bohm and Rhys Hoskins. They also have a formidable top two starting pitchers in Aaron Nola and Zack Wheeler. Behind that you have sketchy depth and a bullpen you hope makes it. Feels like a mid 80’s win team that won’t be playing in October, but will be cashing this ticket.

Miami Marlins OVER 72.5

The Miami Marlins made history and hired Kim Ng to be the first female GM of a major US men’s sports team. She joins an organization that has accumulated quite a bit of young talent if not necessarily brand names. If you go to Fangraphs.com and look at their Roster Resource section, you will NOT be dazzled by their lineup, nor will you likely be inundated with names you know on their pitching staff. That’s what makes this a good bet. I’ve already got some +3500 to win this division and I suspect their band of no-names will have me with hedging opportunities come September. You ever heard of Jazz Chisholm? I know you haven’t, just don’ tell Billy Wires about him.
That was fun!! Remember if you want to bet along with the BeefLoaf or go oppo taco on my bets, be sure to hit the Pointsbet link HERE or earlier in the blog or that gigantic banner below and deposit using the promo code: 108ING
