How the fuck did Jimmy Conway get away with that shit?

The #ShelterInPlace is affording me the opportunity to clear out my notes on things I want to write about but that wouldn’t necessarily fit into the normal 6 month White Sox season.  Now, in theory I could save these for the off-season, but creating content is not an easy job, well, at least it’s not an easy job when you shoot for and attain solid mediocrity.  Anywho, today I want to talk about Jimmy Conway.
Robert DeNiro playing a tough guy

Who is Jimmy Conway?

Well, if you’ve been living in a hole for the last (fuck, we’ve all be living in a hole for 3 months now!!!!)…..
He’s one of the main characters in the movie Goodfellas, he’s the screen embodiment of legendary gangster Jimmy Burke, who was played by the legendary (and allegedly personality-less) Robert DeNiro.
Real life tough guy that Robert De Niro played in a movie
Regardless, in the movie Goodfellas he is the guy who engineered the Luftansa heist, which netted him and his crew an estimated $6M.  But when stealing some shit with a group you always gotta worry about the other guys and since Jimmy Conway is a horrible human being, he started whacking out basically the entire group of guys that helped him steal the money.  Not just a guy like Stacks Edwards who made a critical error in the swindle that lead the cops to have a beat that it might have been them, but EVERYONE.
Stacks Edwards #RIPIP
What has bothered me for going on 30 years of this movie being out there is, HOW DID HE GET AWAY WITH DOING THAT SHIT??

Jimmy Conway wasn’t a Made Man

In the organized crime world, being “Made” is awfully helpful.  Jimmy Conway was not.  If you are one of his “guys” who helped out in this, why the fuck wouldn’t any of them just turn around and whack him out.  There’s “in theory” no additional consequences to killing him, he’s not a Made Guy.  Seems like it would make the “I’ll kill everyone that helped me steal this money, so I can keep it for myself strategy” a risky one.
Also, why wouldn’t another crew, someone that was Made, come in and rob / kill him?  Never made sense.  I get that he was with Paulie, but it didn’t seem like Paulie had that kind of hand to keep him out of harms way after he’s drawing LOTS of attention murdering all of these people.  Also, it seemed like Paulie’s crew was small and lacked the necessary muscle to protect someone like Jimmy, who Paulie was already worried about “taking too many chances”.  It seems like a young and inspired “entrepreneur” who was already a Made Guy would’ve gladly come and taken him out, especially now that he’s gutting his own crew.
Maybe I’m missing something, but this part of the story was weird and although it’s based on a true story, it just seems like an odd way for it to go.
