Eloy Jimenez is hurt…again
Nobody out in the WST Streets has had Eloy’s back like I have. I predict his 74 home run year every year. Every year, I am let down. I am relentless in this pursuit. Then last night, moments after hitting a ball damn near 110mph, while running to score on a Corey Julks single, something as inevitable as Thanos happened. Eloy pulled up with a leg injury. It would be soul crushing if I hadn’t sold my soul to Milhouse years ago.

So let’s assume the normal course of White Sox business: Eloy will be day-to-day for roughly 11 days, then he’ll be put on the 10 day IL for about 75 days, then with no rehab starts will be played in RF his first game back. It’s a story as old as time.
But I’m not here to get you down. Instead, let’s look at some of the positives of this.
Luis Robert DH
Ain’t know way Pedro was gonna figure out how to get Luis any DH at bats with Eloy Jimenez on the roster. I think we could all figure out how to do that, simply by not playing Eloy, but this is a tough mental equation. And look, I get it, Eloy is one of the few dependable bats he has (84 OPS+) other than Andrew Benintendi. With the DH spot open and as Luis returns from injury, it wouldn’t be the worst thing to give him some days at DH. Also known as the Buxton plan.
Gavin Sheets
Sheets hasn’t been lighting it up in May (.188/.304/.313). With the roster additions of Corey Julks and Tommy Pham, as well as Andrew Vaughn having a professional at bat or two to give Pedro just enough hope, the Gavin plate appearances are at risk. If you’re a believer that he can be a major league contributor, you’ll get some more run out of him because of Eloy’s absence.
Dominic Fletcher
Fletch is back with the team, though you’ve probably not noticed. It seems Pedro has confused him with Oscar Colas and hates his guts. Prior to Luis coming back, with Eloy injured, you should get another look at Dom. I think it’s important to understand what the White Sox have there, so this is a good opportunity to try and find out.
I know none of this is great, but at least there is something to look at as you ponder the future of this team. Eloy is not a part of the future, as much as that pains me to say, but some of these other guys may be.
