Happy #108Day! All The Details On How To Help

Happy #108Day to all who celebrate! If you are reading this, thank you very much! You are most likely a very generous person who likes to help others and we need that in our world right now. #108Day is our day to give back to the local community, with your help.

Origin

It all started in 2020, King & Queen Nom slipped MSS an envelope with a few bucks in it. They told him to donate the money to any cause he wanted, but he had a plan. That initial donation was $1 for every hot dog that King Nom ate that year, which was 150. That year (with a generous matching donation by @bwrchicago) we raised nearly $4,000 dollars. In 2021 we doubled that to $8,000. In 2022, we donated to 3 different charities and raised about $4,000. #108Day is our day to shine and do something good for others! Here are the details for #108Day 2023….

Groceries Are Expensive

This year we have decided to give back to a place we all love, the Pilsen Food Pantry. We donated to them in 2021 and they do really good work for the Pilsen community. Here is their mission…

THE PILSEN FOOD PANTRY AIMS TO IMPROVE HEALTH AND SOCIAL OUTCOMES THROUGH THE DISTRIBUTION OF FRESH, CULTURALLY-APPROPRIATE FOODS, VIA SPONSORSHIP OF COMMUNITY EVENTS, AND BY ORGANIZING SEASONAL CLOTHING AND SUPPLY DRIVES.

We’re sure you’ve all noticed that the price of food has gone way up in the past year, so the dollar doesn’t go as far as it used to. No More Bullshit.

One of the fun parts of #108Day was the donation gifts. One of the most stressful things about #108Day for MSS was the donation gifts. In 2023 we are going with less stress and more of a bare bones campaign for #108Day. So this year you won’t get a prize for donating. Some of you are excited, some of you are bummed, we’re sorry.

Donations Go Directly To The Organization

All these years we have taken donations thru our merch shop and you were charged tax. NOT THIS YEAR. Thru the links below you can directly donation to the Pilsen Food Pantry. As a 501c3 organization, your donation allows them to connect with our community and sustain anti-poverty programming. Tax receipts are provided automatically with PayPal donations, mailed/emailed after check donations, and provided upon request to figueroawufamilyfoundation@gmail.com. So you can write that donation off this year! Please put “#108Day” In the notes so they know you are doing this along with our very generous 108 supporters!

Other Ways To Help

We know that not everyone has money to spare, so there are other ways you can help. Pilsen Food Pantry is always looking for volunteers! You can sign up to work a shift here. They also have a few other ways to help the community, The Clothes Closet and The Medical Access Closet. You can schedule a donation of gently used clothes by contacting them at 773-230-9525. Donating to the Medical Access Closet is also by appointment only, so please call Jesse at 773-512-2657.

ALSO, if you live outside of the city and would like to volunteer your time to a local organization that would be directly in line with the #108DAY mission! Our world is a greater place when we are helping one another.
