As should be expected, the White Sox encountered a snow day this past Friday. I was well prepared for this as I have been eyeing the streaming date of the film Nobody, which was 4/16. I figured I’d have to watch it after the game, but the snow thought otherwise.
Why was I so excited for this? I’ve been a long time Bob Odenkirk fan. While his career has been quite long, it was Mr. Show that caught my attention in the mid ’90s. It was sketch comedy, but way different than anything I had seen. Odenkirk is a product of this area (Berwyn) and came up through Second City. Fun fact, he was at Second City with Chris Farley and wrote the Matt Foley sketch there. Here’s some Mr. Show for you with creators David Cross and Bob Odenkirk along with Spongebob himself Tom Kenny:
As awesome as Mr. Show was, after 4 seasons, it was done. And I kinda lost track of him. He’d appear on TV shows from time to time, but those seemed few and far between. Then in the 2009 he showed up on Breaking Bad as Saul Goodman and the star that is Bob Odenkirk was finally to be appreciated.
So when I heard he was going to be in a John Wick style action flick, I had no idea what to expect. When I saw that the RZA and Christopher Lloyd would also be in it, I had even less of an idea of what it would be. But I knew one thing, I had to see it. Without any spoilers, I can tell you it does not disappoint. It’s 90 minutes long and probably 70 of them are action. The way they tell his background shows the perfect delivery that Odenkirk has had throughout his career. If you like any of his work, you really need to check this out. It’s worth a $20 rental for sure.
