When Chicago Brush Lion offered to write up a favorite album, I was pretty sure I’d get a blues album and man did we get a great one. Check this out:

Bo Diddley Is A Gunslinger

First time you heard it

Too long ago to recall.

How often do you listen to it?

On the days your soul needs a pick-me-up.

Why is this your favorite album?

I know it’s pretty on brand for me to peddle The Blues, even Chicago specific Blues for that matter. However, the Bo Diddley beat is a globally recognized institution that occasionally needs to be recognized. I feel smarter listening to Bo, because this album has many benchmarks for Rock, Rockabilly, Blues, Country, and the wireframe for Punk. It’s the upbeat, driving tempo on songs like “Ride On Josephine” or how the story is told on “Cheyenne”. This LP for me is a great example of Bo’s signature style & tone. I was never fortunate to see him in concert, yet, kicking back after a stressful day and pouring a refreshing libation – spinning this gem does take me to another headspace. What soothes the savage beast? Only Bo truly knows!

Which track would be your walk up music?

Sixteen Tons or Working Man (*bonus track of that was added on a reissue).
