The One Hitter – Bryan Shaw Is The Hero We Need

This is the one hitter, don’t forget to exhale…

As you read this title, you may think that I am simply trying to save another BeefLoaf meme from being cast aside.

But I assure you, I am not. The White Sox pitching staff, just like every other one in the league will have to come up with somewhere in the neighborhood of 1450 innings pitched this season. If you look at the current starting rotation of Dylan Cease, Erick Fedde, Michael Kopech, Michael Soroka, and Chris Flexen, they’re projected to throw just under 700 innings in 2024. That gets way worse if you trade Dylan Cease.

Looking at the current bullpen pieces, most of them would need to add about 50 innings to their 2023 totals to get in that 700-750 innings they’ll need to supply. If that sounds like a lot, it’s because it is. This bullpen is gonna be taxed, so a guy like Bryan Shaw makes a lot of sense. You may look at his 2023 IP and say, “that’s only 45.2 IP.” But you’d be forgetting the 23.2 IP he provided in Charlotte last year getting him to a nice 69.1 IP. The White Sox are in dire need of a guy that can give them 70 innings. Bryan Shaw could should be that man.
