Things I Find More Unforgiveable (as a White Sox fan), Than Jason Benetti Leaving The Southside.

Hiya! This past week NBC announced it had hired former White Sox PBP voice Jason Benetti as the “New Voice” of Sunday Night Baseball.

Details of the deal soon emerged and we learned Fox let Jason out of his contract to pursue this opportunity. The Pro-Jason crowd were out and yelling their unwavering support of this homegrown hero. The Con-Jason crowd were out there too, yelling about breaking yet another contract early. It was quite the scene, one we have seen plenty of times before. There seems to be a weekly thread in the White Sox subreddit that is about Jason either lamenting his departure, asking why the Sox let him go or just grandiose posts about missing the guy. It’s been 2 years and these posts don’t seem to be slowing down, but this time around it seemed a little different.

Jason left in 2023, in 2024 the White Sox hired John Schriffen. In 2024 the White Sox went on to lose the most games in the modern era of MLB baseball. They set records that you don’t wanna set. We even made a shirt about it. Which our guy Mike went viral with!

And that’s the start of what made this last round of Pro-Jason posts so interesting (and so ridiculous). It started slowly with people continuing to complain that the White Sox “forced” Jason out (he had a year left on his deal). Calling for the heads of Jerry Reinsdorf and Brooks Boyer for allowing this to happen (both of whom hired him and helped him achieve this new role). All the stuff we’ve heard before. But then these style posts started showing up more and more –

I have his identity because I respect and like the guy. The message was similar in many posts, but this one was the first I saw (thanks BZ). Now, think about it. This says that in recent years having our PBP guy leave the booth was the “most unforgivable” moment as a White Sox fan. Wait, wut? Is that true? Let’s take a look.

For this exercise, I’m gonna consider the last 10 years “recent”. Here are a few things that I found more unforgivable than letting Jason Benetti out of his contract.

Those are the things I find more unforgivable in recent years. I’m not asking you as a reader to change your thoughts at all. I would just like you to keep a little perspective when talking about things we find unforgivable. Can’t wait for the season to start, Go Sox.
