Andor Season 2 premieres on April 22nd. The show will be 12 episodes long, but released in 3 episode blocks. All leading up to the point of Rogue One. Some of the things I’ll discuss are known to be in the season or already established in Rogue One, so if you want to go in fresh, stop now.
(Almost) Everybody Dies
I think this should be fairly obvious to everyone going into this season. This takes us right up to Rogue One and most of these characters ain’t in Rogue One. So Bix and Brasso and Wilmon and Vel and Luthen and Kleya and Cinta and more are probably all dead. Would Cassian sign up for the suicide mission in Rogue One if Bix and Brasso were hanging out waiting for him somewhere? Maybe, but doubtful. We also need something to send him down that path. If you’re hoping to hang on to someone/something, let’s hope that’s B2EMO’s voice embedded into the ship in Rogue One or some part of him resides in K2SO.
The Wedding Is Interrupted
We’ve seen from the trailers and it’s been confirmed in the Star Wars Celebration panels that the wedding is happening between Leida and Davo Sculdun’s son. I don’t think there is any trickery around that, but I do think the wedding will end abruptly with interference from the Empire. There is a money laundering situation here and an unresolved conversation where Mon Mothma intimates that Perrin has been gambling while knowing the Empire is listening. At some point in this series, Mon is forced to leave her family behind. Perhaps Perrin taking the fall for the money laundering is the first domino. Would be a great opportunity for Orson Krennic to be an absolute dick while this goes down.
The Ghorman Massacre Aftermath
This is already established canon and from the looks of the trailer, we get the Ghorman Massacre. What role everyone will play in it is still unknown, but it certainly looks like a bunch of known characters will be there. What we do know from Star Wars Rebels is that this is the point at which Mon Mothma speaks out against the Empire in the Senate and is forced to go on the run. We have seen a part of that escape in Rebels and I assume we’ll see the initiation of that escape here. However, I don’t think we see much more of the escape and we won’t see her board the Ghost with the cast of Rebels. Instead, I think the focus will be on Bail Organa rallying the many systems that join the rebellion at this point. Hopefully we get some Ackbar.
Syril Karn Leaks the Death Star’s Existence
So much time has been invested into Syril’s character that he has to play some important role in all of this. It seems from the trailer footage that he’s moved up in the world after saving Dedra Meero’s life at the end of season 1. In interviews during Star Wars Celebration, Kyle Soller and Denise Gough joked about how weird the relationship is between their two characters. I think this may offer Syril the opportunity to have information he should not. Now whether he will voluntarily give up this info because he’s thinking of the greater good or he unwittingly does so, I think he will spill out some important info. The most important secret at this time is the Death Star. Would be incredible if his mom was a rebel spy all along.
I also think this will lead to a very George and Lennie moment in which Dedra has to “take care” of Syril.
