One of my favorite go to beers every summer is Bell’s Oberon. The citrusy wheat ale is the perfect beer for a hot sunny day, regardless of your choice of activity. When I saw they released a variety pack with new editions of Oberon, I knew there was only one thing that I had to do. Drink them all!
Cherry Oberon
First up I went with the Cherry Oberon, mainly because that was the first one that I grabbed out of the twelve pack. Cherry Oberon naturally poured out bright red in color. The cherry flavor was noticeable right away and was pretty smooth going down. I enjoyed this version of Oberon more than the OG version. The cherry notes were just right and fit right in with the Oberon family.
Mango Habanero Oberon
I previously have had this version at music fests during the summer when Bell’s had some exclusive releases on tap. Typically when I drink a beer with some heat I pick that taste up second with the aftertaste. This was not the case here. The habanero heat punched me directly in the throat right off the bat, which I did not expect. That kick of heat was potent and difficult to take down. Once the mango notes picked up it was very good, however that immediate heat was unexpected. I’m not sure what changed between the exclusive release of this beer and the canned distribution: good beer, but be advised of the spice!
Citrus Oberon
Citrus Oberon is brewed with lemons as well as orange zest. This was the best beer from the variety pack by far. The lemon notes are the most refreshing and a sweet treat during the summer. Instead of going for a Summer Shandy or any other beer with lemon added in, grab the Citrus Oberon. Outstanding beer.
Stay tuned for part two as I combine some of these beers and review them as well!
