Music with Chorizy – Judgment Night Soundtrack

No podcast this week, so you’re getting this in written form.

The 1990s and even the early 2000s were a golden age of movie soundtracks. The music and movie industries realized that the soundtrack was a great way to make additional revenue from a movie and the music landscape was a better place for it. Now you probably immediately think of soundtracks like Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump, the Crow, and countless others that were paired with good or great movies.

But what about the Judgment Night soundtrack? It’s often forgotten, likely because the movie was hot garbage. The cast reads like a Score caller pitching a trade idea: I’ll give you Dennis Leary, Cuba Gooding Jr, Emilio Estevez, and Stephen Dorf for an Oscar. No thanks. I mean, House of Pain are in the movie, so it’s not hard to believe it sucks.

However, the soundtrack is something special. They teamed up rock and rap groups to create new songs for the movie. It’s really great, and the aforementioned House of Pain has a track with Helmet that might just be the best of the bunch. It’s easily the House of Pain track that has aged the best, especially after Shipping Up To Boston replaced Jump Around as the song to play when a white guy dunks.

There are a ton of other amazing mashups:
Helmet & House Of Pain
Teenage Fanclub & De La Soul
Living Colour & Run D.M.C.
Biohazard & Onyx
Slayer & Ice-T Disorder
Faith No More & Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E.
Sonic Youth & Cypress Hill
Mudhoney & Sir Mix-A-Lot
Dinosaur Jr & Del The Funky Homosapien
Therapy? & Fatal
Pearl Jam & Cypress Hill

You should definitely check out this soundtrack and if you’re a Gorillaz fan, you should absolutely listen to this track live on the Arsenio Hall show:
